This photograph was taken on 5th March 2020, my last night on safari before Covid-19 was set to change the world. On composing this image, little did we know what was to come only a few weeks later. During the first few days in March, Amboseli had experienced heavy rainfall. It made access to certain areas challenging and at times my shooting opportunities were limited. The pressures of trying to achieve an aesthetically pleasing photograph were growing and most mornings we would not feel the warmth of the sun until gone 9am. ‘The Night Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn’ photograph is a reminder to myself that just like the world pandemic there is always light at the end of the dark tunnel and on this last night on safari it was reflected in the most stunning of sunsets.
