When working in the same locations for prolonged periods of time you begin to learn about certain individuals characteristics. During late 2020, I spent a great deal of time with this young cheetah and his mother Kweli. Over time we learnt that the pair did not like to move too far until late morning and from a photographic point of view this proved a challenge with the light becoming too strong. On this particular morning we found both mum and cub in the darkness and waited patiently until first light. Before the sun had risen, they were rudely awoken by a brave and curious jackal. Once mum had chased the intruder away, they were both up, awake and on the move much to the little cubs despair who could barely keep his eyes open in the warmth of the early morning rays.
