‘The Last Stand’ was taken on my first safari to Northern Kenya in late 2018. There is such varied beauty in this area within the landscape, from small thickets to dense woodland and from high rocky outcrops to the open savannah. Although the diverse terrain was of interest, the photograph I had in mind was of a large rhino stood proudly out on the grassy plains. Positioning myself at the bottom end of a long grassy plain, my guide and I waited for a rhino to walk into the empty space. When this prehistoric beast ambled into the frame I was able to shoot up the slope composing the strong and perfect profile against the skyline.
