During 2017, Kenya was experiencing yet another year of drought. Elephants were forced to cross this dry lakebed on a daily basis to seek sanctuary under the shadow of Kilimanjaro where the natural springs would provide the only source of water. Each day I would sit with my guide on the top of a large hill and scan the area looking for elephants. On this particular evening we found a single large bull returning into the forests across the lakebed after a day feeding close to the springs. ‘Thirst’ remains one of my most technically satisfying photographs to date and was awarded both in the World Sony Awards 2018 as well as winning the Art In Nature category in the Natures Best Africa Awards the same year.
